Q: Why is this tour during Eid-ul Fitr?

This tour coincides with Eid-ul Fitr, which is anticipated to begin on the evening of March 30, 2025. The first day of Eid will be March 31 (as anticipated). This tour starts on April 1.

Cherry blossoms typically bloom for about two weeks, predicted to start blooming in the last week of Ramadan. The peak of full bloom, allowing us to have the most beautiful views of the cherry blossoms, is expected to occur at the start of this tour and coincides with Eid.

Q: Will I see cherry blossoms?

Cherry blossoms typically bloom for about two weeks, and the peak is predicted to occur at the start of this tour (following the actual viewings of 2024). InshaAllah we will be able to enjoy the best views of the cherry blossoms during their full bloom during this tour.

However, please keep in mind that the tour schedule is based on predictions. Actual weather conditions, such as a mild or severe winter, may affect the exact timing of the cherry blossom peak. Only after the upcoming winter will experts be able to precisely predict the peak blooming of cherry blossoms.

Q: I am a solo traveller, can I join this trip?

    Absolutely!

Japan is a distant destination both geographically and culturally, and your loved ones may not always be able to accompany you. However, this shouldn’t deter you from traveling!

Joining a group tour ensures you’ll have a fulfilling experience and leave Japan with new friends and shared memories.

Additionally, you can provide our contact information to your family back home and vice versa, ensuring they can stay updated whenever needed.

Q: Are there any age restrictions for this tour?

The minimum age requirement for all group tours is 21 years. If you are traveling with younger companions, we recommend opting for a tailored tour.

While there is no maximum age limit, please understand that our tours require guests to be in good health and very active. If, according to our tour leaders, you are not in good enough health to participate in some of the listed activities, you may not be able to join the activities for the day.

Q: I am not Muslim, can I still join a Tulu Tour?

Absolutely! While Tulu Tours offers curated tours that cater to a Muslim traveller’s lifestyle, being Muslim is not a requirement. Even if you are not Muslim, we would love to have you join us!

Please note that Tulu Tours does not suggest or book any sightseeing spots or restaurants that are not in line with a halal lifestyle, such as bars, izakayas, clubs, breweries, and similar venues. If you wish to visit such places, you can opt to do so in your free time and the booking and planning will be up to you.

Additionally, Tulu Tours will allocate time for prayers throughout the day, so please be aware that there may be short breaks once or twice a day.

Q: How big is the group size?

A minimum of 16 and maximum of 20 travellers is required for this tour to be continued. Tulu Tours may cancel the tour if less than 16 participants have booked this tour. Please note that Tulu Tours is not responsible for the cost of any extra arrangements, such as flights or accommodations booked by the traveller that are not covered in this tour.

If you’re planning on traveling with your own group of close people or wish to create your own itinerary, please refer to our tailored tour page.

Q: Will I have to share rooms?

For all our tours, we arrange twin rooms with private bathrooms (shared bathrooms are not unusual in Japan!) when staying in hotels.

In unique accommodations such as castles, ryokans, or kominkas, single rooms or private bathrooms may not always be available. You might need to share the room and other facilities with other guests of the same gender. For all-welcome (mixed) tour groups, all accommodations will have either private rooms/bathrooms or shared facilities with the same gender.

If you prefer to stay in a room by yourself throughout the tour, we can arrange single occupancy for an extra cost, depending on availability (please see the ‘overview’ tab for details). However, for unique accommodations, single rooms may not be available.

Q: I'm joining with my spouse, will I get a double bed?

Please note that all rates and rooms are based on twin rooms (two single beds). While we may be able to arrange a double bed for couples, this depends on availability. Please let us know at the time of bookings so that we can arrange double rooms if available.

In some cases, especially late bookings, this may also mean that there might be an additional charge for rooms with a double room. Kindly inquire to see if this applies.

Q: How are the room sizes in Japan?

You may have heard that hotel rooms in Japan are quite small, and that’s certainly correct! With twin rooms starting at only 9 m² and the need for many capsule hotels, Japan is known for its efficient use of space. Room sizes, especially in city centers, are generally much smaller than what you might be accustomed to. Please keep this in mind when booking this tour.

However, we prioritize your comfort and do our best to select rooms with enough space for you to pray comfortably. We opt for larger-than-usual rooms, typically ranging from 18 to 23 m², depending on location.

Q: What can I expect for breakfast?

Unfortunately, traditional hotel breakfasts in Japan often do not meet halal standards. While some standard breakfast items like bread, jams, and cheeses may be halal in your home country, in Japan, these items often contain non-halal ingredients, such as animal-based fats (e.g. margarine, shortening, lard), gelatine, alcohol (e.g., sake, mirin) etc. Even at buffet-style hotel breakfasts, many dishes are prepared with non-halal ingredients, and the limited halal options like fruits and boiled eggs may not be sufficient for a full meal.

Tulu Tours has partnered with local businesses that specifically create breakfasts free from non-halal ingredients just for our guests. We pick this up in early mornings, so that our guests can enjoy halal breakfasts without having to worry about being able to eat halal breakfast.

Breakfast for our travellers is specially arranged from outside vendors to ensure it meets halal dietary requirements. Depending on your accommodation type, your breakfast will either be delivered directly to your room or available for pick-up in the lobby. Your guide will let you know this at the time of the tour. This arrangement is made to guarantee that our guests can safely eat halal meals, as traditional hotel breakfasts often do not meet halal standards.

Q: Can you accommodate dietary restrictions?

Providing special meals is quite challenging and may not be possible, but please let us know about your dietary restrictions, and we’ll try to accommodate you if possible. However, we cannot make any promises.

We recommend bringing safe snacks or food from home, as you may have difficulty finding similar items in Japan that meet your specific requirements. Examples of often brought items are gluten-free crackers and soy sauce, nut butters, energy bars etc.

For guests with food allergies, we can offer an allergy card in Japanese to help communicate with restaurant staff. While it doesn’t guarantee an allergy-free meal, it may assist in conveying your needs.

Q: How much walking activity can I expect?

Japan is a country where walking is a daily norm for both locals and tourists. Be prepared to walk 8,000 to 15,000 steps a day during the program, and even more during your free time.

Tour participants should have moderate fitness, able to maintain the group’s pace and handle stairs without difficulty.

Q: Is it possible to take this tour as part of a longer, individual journey?

Of course! For longer, individual journeys, we may not be able to provide airport pick-up or drop-off services. Instead, we’ll ask you to meet the group at the hotel or a designated meeting point.

Additionally, we offer self-guided tours. If you’re interested, please let us know when filling out the booking form!

    Q: How does payment work?

Upon filling in the booking form (see the “book”) you will be asked to pay a deposit of 25% of the total trip cost per person in order to confirm your participation. Payment can currently be made in Euro only (bank transfer or iDeal). Please contact us if you need more information or help regarding payment options.

The remaining balance payment (75% of the total trip cost) will have to be completed 60 days before the start date of the trip. If you fail to pay in time, we might have to cancel your participation, which will be regarded as cancellation by the traveller.

We can work with payment in installments, please let us know in case you’d like to pay in installments.

Please refer to our Booking Conditions for details on changes and cancellation.

Q: What happens in case of cancellation?

In case the guest is responsible for cancelling the trip, refunds will be as follows:

    • More than 90 days before tour starting date: you will be refunded 100% of the total trip cost, minus the non-refundable booking cost.
    • 60 to 89 days before tour starting date: you will be refunded 90% of the total trip cost, minus the non-refundable booking cost.

    • 8 to 14 days before tour starting date: you will be refunded 25% of the total trip cost, minus the non-refundable booking cost.
    • up to 7 days before tour starting date: there will be no refund.

Tulu Tours is not responsible for costs associated with any flights, accommodation, or others booked by the traveller that are not covered in this tour.

Q: Do I need a visa to travel to Japan?
